Celebrate Health Literacy Month at Northside Library: Join Us for a Mini Health Fair!
Health Literacy Month is a time dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of understanding health information and making informed decisions. At Northside Library, we’re excited to support this initiative by hosting a Mini Health Fair to connect our community with essential health resources. Whether you’re looking to monitor your health, learn more about preventive care, or access local health services, this event is for you!
What You Can Expect:
Our Health Fair is designed to offer a variety of free, helpful services in one convenient location. Here’s what we have planned:
1. Blood Pressure Monitoring Stations
High blood pressure is a silent condition that can increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. We’re offering free blood pressure monitoring stations, next to the information desk all month long. Stay on top of your health by learning how to track this important metric!
2. Free Flu Vaccines
Flu season is approaching, and we’re teaming up with Blue Ridge Health District and the Virginia Department of Health to offer free flu vaccines on-site Thursday October 10th from 5:00-7:00pm. Protect yourself and your loved ones from the flu, and stay healthy this season.
3. Cancer Screening Awareness Seminar
Early detection can save lives. Join UVA Cancer Center and Blue Ridge Department of Health for an educational seminar about cancer screening on Thursday October 3rd from 5:30-7:30pm. You’ll learn about risk factors, prevention strategies, and the importance of regular screenings.
4. Health Resource Referrals from the Health Department
Need help finding a doctor, clinic, or specialized health services? Representatives from the Blue Ridge Health District will be on hand to provide health resource referrals on Thursday October 10th from 5:00-7:00pm. Whether you’re looking for mental health services, nutrition programs, or other healthcare options, they’ll guide you in the right direction.
Why Health Literacy Matters:
Health literacy is more than just understanding medical information; it’s about being empowered to make informed decisions about your health. By offering resources like blood pressure kits, flu vaccines, and health education seminars, we hope to provide you with tools to take control of your health.
Mark your calendar for this important event and take a step towards better health this October! We look forward to seeing you at the library.
